I recently downloaded a free app for my iPhone. These are the last car DVRs that I get that are intended for the Asian market. To sum up these cameras, you get what you pay for. The single lens unit has a motion detection feature that is supposed to turn recording off when you are stopped and turn it on when moving but that feature didn't work well.

One neat feature is it will stay on for a few seconds after the car is shut off for a little extra security.īoth cameras have g-sensors that are supposed to save the current video if an accident is detected. Sometimes it works but more often than not, the image is very dark and very red. The biggest problem is the rear facing camera is broken. The rear facing camera is not HD so the image is barely adequate (when is works). The image of the front camera is HD (720) not as good as the other DVR but it's not horrible. It's called ' Car, Vehicle DVR AV Recorder Camera W/ TFT Display - 5.0MP + 3.0MP Lens - Dual Card Slot - HD/VGA Supported - Night Vision - IMGGD26ClA'. The second one has front and rear cameras. And finally, I couldn't get it to record in the Mustang recently. The door that covers the USB power port broke off. I've only found one, besides the 2 gb card that came with it, that works. It is very picky about the SD card I use. A mount knob broke a week after I got it because it kept coming loose and I was constantly tightening it. It's actually got very good HD video quality once it is set up and it was fairly cheap at $50. The first one I got is just called ' 2013 New Firmware DVR207GS HD720P IR Car Vehicle Dash Camera Cam DVR G-Sensor - #12336#' No brand name. Both record in 1, 3 or 5 minute segments. Both have horrible build quality and really bad batteries that don't hold much of a charge. Both have nearly impossible to follow instructions and menus. I've got two of the cheap, Chinese made car DVR's. I have used go pros but I'd say they are not suitable for any long term stress, and should be used as a catch all or where specialized soulutions already exist. I have a helmet cam and it is designed for fire service and cost the sme as a go pro. I extremely dislike go pros for various reasons, but they can't auto delete the oldest recording or do segment recordings, you have to turn it on each time, and the lense isnt optimized for recording with a heavy glare and at night.ĭon't get me wrong, they have there place but all too often people think go pros can do it all and as a Firefighter I have seen probies mount those on their helmets and not only ruin the camera but ruin the helmet. Here are the main points that a dash cam should have:ġ) segment recording, short bursts a minute or so at a timeĤ) starts with the car (ignition switched)ĥ) can take heat, it needs to last sitting on the windshield of a hot car and long drives.Ħ)gps, when I look at my vids on a cpu or mac, a google maps rout follows side by sideħ) you get what you pay for (the dr500gw is about $200-$250 but runs laps around the crappy ebay or amazon $20- $100 dollar units) I have the DR500GW, and dont waste your money on the 32gb version, buy the 16gb, and get a sandisk 32gb card. It has gps, a g sensor, parking mode, and event mode (if you get hit or hit a bad bump it will save the recording from deletion) It has many great modes and I cant go into too many details. There is a very useful app to watch live, save to your device, edit settings, etc and it runs on wifi produced by the unit.

On 32gb and set at 1080p & 30fps I get about 6 hours, and it is a good idea to format the card every so often, there is a button on the cera that can do that in about a minute.

It uses a up to 32gb micro sd card and records in segments of 30-120 seconds with no gap between and will delete the oldest when it becomes full.
